Below are a few tips to help you enjoy your stay in Grand Cayman
Driving
If you are thinking about renting a car, be aware that they drive on the left side of the road in the Cayman Islands.
Cell Phone Service
Despite its deceiving area code (345), Grand Cayman is an international destination, so data used on the island or calls made to or from the island are considered international. Please check with your cell phone service carrier about their international cell phone and data packages.
Electricity
All electrical plugs are the same as the US, so no adapters or converters are necessary.
Currency
The official currency of the Cayman Islands is the Cayman Island Dollar (CI or KYD). The exchange rate is approximately US$1.25 to CI$1.00. US currency is accepted everywhere on the island, including taxis, shops, and restaurants, and credit cards are accepted pretty much everywhere. There’s no need to bring or exchange currency before you arrive.
Taxis
Taxis are fairly plentiful on the island, especially at hotels. And restaurants will gladly call you a taxi if you can’t find one easily for a trip back to the hotel. Taxi rates are set by the government—a taxi from the airport to the Ritz will cost approximately CI$25.
Tipping
Most restaurants automatically add a 15-18% tip to the check, and of course, you’re welcome to add a little additional for great service.
Airport Departure
Airport security in Grand Cayman is particular about having your carry-on toiletries in a quart-size plastic bag. If you plan to only take carry-on luggage, please be sure to pack a small Ziplock bag for the return trip. That will save you time going through security and having them hand-inspect your bag.
