Grand Velas Los Cabos

Travel Tips

Below are a few tips to help you enjoy your stay in Mexico

Time Zone

The time zone in Los Cabos is Mexican Pacific Standard Time, which will be aligned with Pacific Time in April.  Click here to see the current local time.

What to Wear

Resort wear is a good choice for Edmentum-hosted events (sundresses, linen pants, button-down/collared shirts, khaki shorts, etc.). Casual attire is recommended for the meeting. For the Giveback activity, please bring your VTO shirt, closed-toe shoes, and lightweight shorts or pants that may get dirty. And don’t forget a hat and sunscreen!

All-Inclusive

The Grand Velas is a luxury, all-inclusive resort, so all of your onsite meals and drinks are included. You’ll be asked to sign a “check” after each meal, but no charges will be posted to your room. The only extras not included are spa treatments, certain ultra-premium wines, and any tours or excursions you arrange through the hotel.

Tipping

Tipping
Because the Grand Velas is an all-inclusive resort, tips are not required but certainly appreciated for excellent service. You can’t add tips to your restaurant or bar bill (since it’s included), but you can leave cash. The front desk can break large bills in USD.

Driving

Rental cars may be picked up from the airport. They drive on the right side of the road in Mexico (just like the US). Parking at the hotel is free of charge.

Cell Phone Service

Mexico is an international destination, so data used on the island or calls made to or from the island are considered international. Please check with your cell phone service carrier about their international cell phone and data packages. Free wifi is available throughout the entire resort.

Electricity

All electrical plugs are the same as the US, so no adapters or converters are necessary.

Currency

The official currency of Mexico is the Mexican Peso. The exchange rate is approximately USD$0.05 to MXN1.00, or approximately 20 pesos to the dollar. US currency is accepted everywhere on the island, including taxis, shops, and restaurants, and credit cards are accepted pretty much everywhere. There’s no need to bring or exchange currency before you arrive.

Taxis

Taxis are plentiful and can easily be arranged at the hotel, but many don’t take credit cards. Uber operates in Mexico, and an Uber from the airport to the hotel will cost $30-$40. An Uber from the hotel into Cabo San Lucas will cost approximately $25.
